The Beverly Shores Green Space Committee and the Environmental Restoration Group will be conducting training on Town Green Space properties in invasive plant identification and removal. Attendees will receive a free copy of ERG's book, A Beginner's Guide to the Plants of the Indiana Dunes.
Sign up is required and space is limited. Look for further notices in Sand Tracks and Town emails.
The training will take place on Saturday, August 28 and Monday, August 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Friday, September 10 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, September 11 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
You need only sign up for one session, though if space is available, you are invited to sign up for more than one workday. Location details will be provided prior to the training to those signing up. Training will focus on identification and removal of burning bush, privet, Japanese barberry, autumn olive, glossy buckthorn and oriental bittersweet. Tools will be available for participants. At a later date, ERG will also offer to lend tools to homeowners for invasive plant removal on their own properties.
Funding for tools to be used as well as the cost of printing the third edition of A Beginner's Guide to the Plants of the Indiana Dunes has been supported by a NIPSCO Environmental Action Grant.
